About the Event
The Canada Man / Canada Woman Xtreme Triathlon is one of the most extreme triathlons in the world. Held in Lac-Mégantic in the Eastern Townships, this event challenges athletes with long-distance races in an exceptional mountainous environment.
The Events
- Swimming: 3.8 km in the icy waters of the lake
- Cycling: 180 km with significant elevation gain in the mountains
- Running: 42.2 km culminating at the summit of Mont Mégantic (peak at 1100 m)
Why Extreme?
- Icy waters at the start (often below 14°C)
- Major elevation gain on the bike in the Eastern Townships
- Race finishing at the summit of Mont Mégantic
- No assistance — each athlete must have a mandatory support (ground team)
- Strict time limit of 18 hours
Practical Notes
- Wetsuit required (cold water)
- Headlamps for early morning start
